Dexter K. Lee, Ed.S
Human Capital and Evaluation Officer
Pine Bluff School District
Dexter K. Lee grew up in the southeast area of Pine Bluff, Arkansas in the early 1970s. As a student in the Pine Bluff School District, Mr. Lee began his journey as a kindergartener at 6th Avenue Elementary School, then Broadmoor Elementary School, Gabe Meyer Elementary School, Oak Park Elementary School, Southeast and Dial Junior High Schools, and culminated his journey by graduating from Pine Bluff High School. As a student, he enjoyed orchestra and band.
While a student at Pine Bluff High School, Dexter enlisted in the United States Army Reserve’s Delta Company 299th Engineer Battalion. He was called to active duty to serve in Kuwait and Iraq during the Persian Gulf War alongside other citizens of Pine Bluff. After graduating from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Mr. Lee worked in the business and social services industries before accepting the call to become an educator. After entering the profession through the Arkansas Non-Traditional Teacher Licensure Program (NTLP), he began his career as a career-technical educator (CTE) in the Gould (Arkansas) School District. Once the Gould District was consolidated into the Dumas (Arkansas) School District, Mr. Lee continued his career there as a CTE teacher, eventually obtaining a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University (ASU). Upon completion of the administrator licensing process, he became the Director of K-12 Alternative Learning Environments for Dumas, leading the program to become one of distinction.
Mr. Lee considered his invitation to serve as the assistant principal at the Pine Bluff School District’s (PBSD) Oak Park campus a divine appointment. His principal allowed him to close each day with a daily rap. He would go on to serve as an assistant principal at Belair and Southeast Middle Schools, and Southwood Elementary School. Dexter also served as substitute principal for W. T. Cheney Elementary School. A dream came true when Mr. Lee was invited to become an assistant principal at his beloved Pine Bluff High School, where he took on and completed the task of evaluating all certified instructional staff.
Dexter Lee has recently completed his specialist degree in Educational Leadership (Superintendent Track) at Arkansas State University. He currently serves as the Pine Bluff School District’s Human Capital and Evaluation Officer. His office is responsible for recruiting talent; ensuring that all staff are evaluated; and managing employee benefits.
Mr. Lee is married to his college sweetheart, Vernita. They have three adult children.
